Visby is a town on the southeastern Sweden island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. Visby is noted for its well-preserved medieval Hanseatic town as UNESCO World Heritage Site. A medieval stronghold with defensive towers that dates back to the 12th century. The St Clemens, St Nicolai, and Drottens ruins, as well as the St Karin church ruin with its lofty arches, are all noteworthy church ruins from the period. More than 200 houses and homes dating from the 12th to 14th century may be found on the town’s streets. Every summer, Visby has Medieval Week (Medeltidsveckan), which includes a vibrant market with music and theater. It’s Northern Europe’s largest medieval festival, and it’s a vibrant event where people dress up in medieval garb and reenact life in the Middle Ages.
