Cruising to La Palma, Canary Islands

Santa Cruz de La Palma tourist information.

La Palma, Canary IslandsAt the northwest of the Canaries archipelago, a few hundred miles from the coast of north-west Africa, lies the island of La Palma, also known as La Isla Bonita, because of its extraordinary natural beauty. La Palma is one of the seven islands that make up the Canary Islands, and one of the best places in the world for hiking and trekking fanatics, mountain bikers, scuba divers and astronomers. The clear and protected night skies of La Palma are amongst the world’s best for looking at the stars. Take advantage with a guided night tour or a star gazing session at a viewpoint. To get as close as you can to the cosmos, head to the Roque de los Muchachos observatories at 2,420 metres above sea level.

This volcanic island has many surprisingly different areas of natural beauty from mountains and volcanoes, beaches and forests, a tropical rainforest, tiny villages and breathtaking views. Designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, La Palma boasts stunning scenery that you won’t find on other Canary Islands, like La Caldera de Taburiente and the water tunnels at Marcos y Corderos. Thankfully unspoilt by tourism, La Palma feels like an island stuck in a time warp when compared with its brash neighbours.
